Fear hangs over Asankragua in the Amenfi West District of the Western Region as two of townspeople have been found dead under mysterious circumstances.
One of the dead was found by the roadside in the early hours of Tuesday whilst the second was found hanging from a tree on Wednesday morning.
Residents say their fear is heightened by the fact that blood had been drained from the victims. They suspect strangers in the town are responsible for the killings.
While both deaths appear to have been bloodless, residents are insistent both victims were murdered and their bodies dumped.
Kwesi Katakyie Mensah, a correspondent for Tema-based radio station, Adom FM, saw the bodies of both victims, describing them as looking ‘pale’.
The Amenfi West District Chief Executive, Samuel Victor Mesu, has confirmed the incidents and says security has been beefed up in the area to ensure the perpetrators of what he believes to be murder are brought to book.
The police picked up the bodies on Wednesday but they say they have not been able to establish the identities of the deceased.
District Police Commander for Asankragua, DSP Albert Adiita, has ruled out murder for ritual purposes while the police mount a search for those behind the killings.
He said no body parts were missing in either incident.
