Police in the Volta Region have arrested eight suspected criminals at Aflao in an attempt to clamp down on criminal activities at the border town which have left residents and travelers in fear.
The eight suspects which included a female were rounded up in an operation in Aflao Saturday.
The suspected criminals arrested include Edem Bedzrah alias Thunder, 23, Ezah Mensah alias Death key, 19, Richard Amuzu, 19, Joshua Amewugah, 18, with his girlfriend Wabi Khalifah.
The rest are Efo Doe Azalekor alias Fat bone, 18, Michael Adzika and Paul Adzable.
Briefing the press in Ho, the Volta Regional commander DCOP PeterKin Yentumi Gynae expressed the resolve of the police to take proactive steps to ensure that crime is reduced to the barest minimum.
‘’We have actually stepped up our activities. You can see the number of policemen in town and in Aflao. If you go now, you will see that we have increased our strength. We are re-strategizing. Our idea now is to turn the fight towards those who receive the goods that are stolen and those who are selling and buying the stolen. We also expect the public to be vigilant and provide us with information that will lead to their arrest.’’
The police retrieved locally made pistols, machetes, Indian hemp and cutters from the suspects.
A recent scuffle between the joint police military team and the some resident who tried to protect their colleagues from being arrested in similar crimes resulted in the death of one James Nutsugah.
Kpeve ADB Break-In
In a related development, two Nigerians have been arrested by the police in the Volta region for breaking into the Kpeve Branch of the Agriculture Development Bank (ADB) Friday dawn.
The two, in the company of four others broke into bank at about 3am and made away with an undisclosed amount of money from the bank.
They are Tosin Robert aged 40 and Prince Ndubisi aged 32. They are currently in the cells of the Volta regional Police command in Ho assisting in investigations.
