The Ghana Education Service (GES) says it will send auditors to verify complaints by headmistress of the Kukurantumi Presby Primary School that the institution did not have chalk and other teaching materials.

Wife of the Vice President, Matilda Amissah Arthur came under attack after she chastised the headmistress for appealing for chalk supplies to her school.

But the GES says all the East Akyem Educational Directorate have been supplied several thousands of boxes of chalk and however surprised by the request.

Acting Public Relations Officer of the GES Rev Jonathan Bettey says it is necessary for the headmistress’ complaints to be investigated.

“There is the need for verification to be done. So experts will go down to the district and then to the schools around.

“We need to work it out and see whether what the woman was saying in Kukurantumi in that particular school is a fact or not. If it is a fact, good; if it is not, authorities will know what to do”, he added.

Rev Jonathan Bettey says this is not the first time an audit of such nature has been done but "If there is a lapse somewhere it is not a big deal for an audit to be done”.

The GES had earlier chastised the headmistress for directing her request to Mrs Amissah-Arthur.

Its PRO said the headmistress should have contacted the District Education Office or the Director of Education and request for the chalk and teaching materials her school had run out of.

According to the Service, thousands of boxes have been made available to all educational directorates as far back as March to be supplied to all schools this year.

This includes the Eastern Region which was allocated 82,391 boxes of chalk, Rev Bettey revealed.
