The Chief Executive Officer of the erstwhile Ghana@50 Secretariat, Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby is unfazed over threats of prosecution contained in the report of the Justice Duose-led Commission of Enquiry presented to President Mills on Wednesday.
He has always maintained his innocence in any malfeasance in the organisation of Ghana’s 50th Independence Anniversary, in the face of a barrage of public criticisms, suspicions and accusations of financial impropriety.
When the chairman of the Commission presented the report to the President on Wednesday, he made it clear some officials could be liable for prosecution even though no names were mentioned.
Wereko-Brobby who remains one of the key architects of the Ghana@50 celebrations and who many allegations have been made against, told Joy News’ Sammy Darko he is not worried over the threats of prosecution.
“Why should I be worried,” he asked, cautioning against speculations about the report.
His only expectation is that copies of the report will be made available to him before being leaked to the press.
Dr. Wereko-Brobby was confident the final report will not be dramatically different from the details that emerged during his public cross examination by the commission.
“Fortunately for all of us the proceedings were in the full view of the whole of Ghana and so people would have to be pretty much convinced about any gulf, or deviation between the report and what people heard. I cannot be worried,” he said.
He described as a “moot point” the controversy surrounding his 'missing' appointment letter. The chairman of the commission sought to question his jurisdiction as the CEO of the erstwhile Ghana@50 Secretariat because the commission failed to lay hands on his letter of appointment.
He stressed that he was dragged before the commission of inquiry based on the commission’s own admission that he was the CEO of the secretariat.
“I do not see the point or the fuss about this appointment letter. Why did the commission invite me first of all to appear before the commission as the Chief Executive of Ghana@50 to account for my stewardship? I am not a lawyer but I guess in de-facto there was recognition that I was the Chief Executive.
“What is so magical and important about a letter?” he quizzed
