Employment and Labour Relations minister, Haruna Iddrisu is making passionate appeal to the president to consider naming existing public universities after persons who have served the highest office of the land.
He says the country must honor them whilst they are alive as a way of appreciating the roles they played whilst serving the nation as president.
Speaking to Joy News on the sidelines of the late John Mills' three year memorial held in Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu said the country must appreciate their role in the governance of this nation now and should not wait till they die.
"I am a firm believer that the University of Energy and Renewal Natural Resources in the Brong Ahafo region and the Health and Allied Sciences in the Volta region be named after Professor Mills, the University of Development studies in the Northern Region be named after former President Rawlings and the University of Mines in Tarkwa be named after President Kufuor, this is done especially in the United States and Ghana must follow suit", he indicated.
He is hopeful this proposal when implemented will immortalize the memory of the country’s presidents.
The Labour Minister described the late President Mills as a modest, humble and honorable man, adding, he rejected violence of all forms and was very key in the decision to allow young people play active roles in government.
