Doctors have threatened to resign en masse if government fails to meet their July 31, 2015 deadline if it fails to provide them with conditions of service.
The Ghana Medical Association is currently in talks with government over the situation.
President of the Ghana Medical Association Dr Kwabena Opoku Adusei in an interview with Joy News said the Association is hopeful that an agreement will be reached by the end of today, Wednesday 29, 2015.
“We hope that by end of today [Wednesday] both parties will be satisfied, if there are any issues we will let the general public know about it”.
Some junior doctors besieged the Controller and Accountant General’s Department on Monday demanding the payment of their eleven-month salary arrears.
The doctors refused to return to their post until government settled the debt owed them.
Following the agitations, government promised to release the monies today, Wednesday July 29, 2015 and pleaded with the doctors to go back to their post.
Spokesperson for the junior doctors, Nana Kissi Atefah says they may be forced to take another action should government fail to deliver on its promise.
“Per the agreement we have by close of today [4:30pm], all 91 of us should have received our full salaries so we are all waiting for it.
“We will wait until close of day Friday to confirm whether or not all of our members have received their salaries in their account, then we will decide our next line of action”.
But the agitations on the health front do not involve just doctors.
Pharmacists across the country have served notice they will embark on a strike from Monday.
