Northern Regional Police Commander, ACP Angwubutoge Awuni is all praise for the Paramount Chief of the Gonja Traditional Area, Yabonwura Bawa Doshi, who passed away at the weekend at the celebrated age of 102.
According to the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Bawa Doshei who passed away early Saturday morning, contributed enormously towards peace and peace-building in the region even at his advanced age.
He made the comments in a telephone interview with Accra-based Hot 93.9 FM.
ACP Angwubutoge Awuni wished that the chief, even though very advanced in age, would have lived longer to further contribute to the general peace of the region. He said the chief’s contribution has helped and brought great development to the area, urging residents and the family of the deceased chief to rejoice in the Lord for He alone gives and takes life.
He said true to his nature, the region has remained calm following his death while virtually all activites came to a standstill in the period immediately following his death. Everyone is mourning him, he told Adakabre Frimpong Manso, host of the morning show programme.
According to the Ghanaian Times, the respected chief died at Damongo after a protracted illness.
Bawa Doshi, before his death, was the president of the Northern Regional House of Chiefs and one of three Eminent Chiefs mediating in the Dagbon crisis. He was also vocal in calling for a split of the Northern Region to facilitate the region’s development.
Funeral arrangements are to be announced later.
