Water supply to residents in Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo is being threatened by galamsey activities.
This is because the Tano River, which serves as the main source of raw water for treatment and subsequent distribution to residents in the region, is being polluted by activities of illegal miners.
Joy News is learning that the miners wash gold particles in the River using poisonous chemicals.
Several protests against the illegal mining activities have not produced concrete results.
But MP for Tano North, Freda Prempeh believes military intervention will help stop the practice.
She was also concerned about comments by some of the galamsey operators that they have legitimate licenses to operate in the area.
She told Joy News the DCE of the area has a duty to explain the circumstances under which the operators are engaging in the illegal activity.
"The water is becoming darker. The ripple effect is very huge," she said.
She was disappointed in the failure of government to take action against persons involved in the galamsey operation.
Meanwhile the Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Minister Samuel Justice said they are monitoring events at the region to stop the activities of the miners.
He said they have organised a number of security personnel to secure the area and to make sure the illegal activity is stopped and the water secured.
