The Minerals Commission is calling for restraint following violent attacks by youth on mining firm, Perseus at Ayamfuri in the Central Region.
The youth in the area believe the company is behind the arrest of 15 of their colleagues for mining on its concession.
Police at Ayamfuri have been on high alert to avert reprisal after military men shot one person in an attempt to quell a mob attack.
Though the residents claim their mining activities are legal, the company disputes it.
General Manager of Corporate Affairs for Perseus Edwin Acquaye says the company has a licence to operate in the area and finds it inappropriate for some people to want to take over their concession.
Speaking to Joy News, chairman of the Minerals commission Dr. Tony Aubynn said the residents must exercise restraint and allow the rule of law to take its course.
He said until the company completes what it is doing on the area allocated to them, it will be wrong for anyone to attack the company.
“It is time for us to apply the law, encourage our people to abide by laws of the country, so I will appeal to them to exercise restraint and not go forcibly taken over any portion of the ground that has been granted legitimately by government to Perseus”.
