A youth advocate and business man has picked nomination forms to contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) November primaries in the Ayawaso North constituency.
Abdul Jalil Abdul Rahman is hoping to unseat incumbent MP Dr. Mustapha Ahmed who has been in parliament for many years.
According to Mr Rahman, the incumbent MP has lost touch with the constituents.
Abdul Rahman who was born and bred in the Greater Accra Region constituency said he has been at the forefront of a campaign to improve the lives of people, especially the youth, in the area.
He mentioned provision of scholarships to poor-but-needy students and other healthcare related initiatives as some of his achievements.
Abdul Rahman introduced a program dubbed Health for All in the constituency in which participants were taken through medical screening and other health awareness campaigns.
The young MP aspirant believes that his track record as a social activist who knows how to mobilise the youth for development believes, he can unseat the incumbent MP.
He said his decision to contest the seat was based on the fact that he knew the problems facing the people in the constituency and therefore could provide workable solution to them when given the mandate.
Mr. Rahman who is also the proprietor of Ultimate Business College, a second cycle institution in the area. The school has a policy to provide free tuition for poor-but-needy students .
Apart from that the school runs remedial classes for selected failed WASSCE students for free to enable them better their grades.
Vocational skills are also offered to Senior High School leavers who could not make it to the tertiary level enable them have employable skills.
In his effort to alleviate poverty in the area, Mr. Rahman is currently working towards forming a cooperative society that would provide loan facilities to support small scale business men and women.
The form was presented to him by Mr Eric Agbenyo, General Secretary for the Ayawaso North constituency of the NDC.
Mr Agbenyo said filing of nomination form does not automatically qualify an aspirant to become a candidate since all aspirants will go through a vetting process.
Mr. Agbenyo revealed that three other aspirants have picked nomination forms to contest incumbent, Dr Mustapha Ahmed.
