A 57-year-old trader is being held by police in Kumasi for allegedly defrauding at least 24 persons to the tune of GH¢95,000 under the guise of securing travel documents for them. Kingsley Ntiamoah is alleged to have collected between GH¢5,600 and GH¢12,000 from each of his victims with the promise to acquire for them Canadian working visas. He however abandoned his office at Buokrom in Kumasi until his arrest at Kwaman near Offinso in the Ashanti Region. Chief Inspector Mohammed Tanko of the Ashanti Regional Police Command Public Relations Unit says the suspect had told the complainants he had been working on the documents in Kenya and Cote d’Ivoire A search in his office led to the discovery of 155 Ghanaian passports, Australian medical forms with pictures of some victims pasted on them, complementary cards and other visa-related documents. According to Chief Inspector Tanko, 36 alleged victims have so far come forward to report the fraudulent activity. Out of the number, 23 have given statements to the police. Tanko urges members of the public who may have fallen victim to Ntiamoah’s alleged illegal deals to call at the regional command office to register their complaints.
