Portsmouth's Ghanaian striker Quincy Owusu-Abeyie says it would be a 'miracle' if his side stayed in the Premier League - but insisted the club can do the unthinkable.
Pompey, facing a bleak future in the wake of a winding-up order from Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs, are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League and were defeated 2-1 by Stoke on Saturday.
Owusu-Abeyie arrived at Fratton Park at the end of January and was on hand to score in the recent FA Cup derby victory over bitter rivals Southampton to book a place in the quarter-finals
But Pompey are seven points behind second-bottom Burnley in the table, and succumbed to defeat at the weekend despite taking a 35th minute lead through Frederic Piquionne.
Robert Huth and Salif Diao struck for the Potters to record victory, even though they were reduced to 10 men following Andy Wilkinson's dismissal.
And with 12 games to go the situation looks ominous for the South Coast club, with the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham and Aston Villa still to play.
Owusu-Abeyie has not surrendered hope of beating the drop, however, and believes his spell at the club till of the season can culminate in survival.
The 23-year-old said: "We still have 12 games to go and who knows what the other teams will do?
"They may slip up. I would love to say we can win all of our last 12 games and come out of relegation but I don't know if it will go like that.
"If we could do that it could be a great achievement, but it's going to be tough. It looks bad, but we can't lose faith. You never know, we could pull off a miracle."
