Former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Andre Arendse says Carlos Alberto Parreira will struggle to choose his number one keeper for the World Cup.
However, Arendse says it is not as difficult for him to come up with the three keepers that are looking good to make the World Cup with 100 days to go to the world’s biggest sporting event.
“I think Parreira will have a nice headache in this department because this country has always been stable as far as keepers are concerned,” says Arendse, who was capped 67 times by Bafana.
While Parreira continues to try out different outfield players, he’s been sticking to the same keepers and Arendse believes this is one department the Brazilian is not losing sleep over.
“Parreira will have a nice headache picking his number one for the World Cup squad. It is a little bit difficult in a sense that there is no outright number one at the moment, in my view.
“If you asked me eight months ago I could have said of course Khune, but he picked up an injury and now he’s starting all over again. But he has a good chance of grabbing that number one jersey. Khune is certainly one of our three keepers who deserve to be there,” Arendse tells KickOff.com.
“Moeneeb Josephs, to me, he’s been in good form all season and he is involved at a team with one of the best defensive records in the League so I will love to see him there,” he continues.
Arendse says Emille Baron’s form for Matsatsantsa a Pitoli also stands him in good stead. “I think if you go on current form the other one has to be Baron. He is a League winning goalkeeper with SuperSport United. To sum it up, if you look on current form and experience, I think those are the three keepers who might take the three World Cup goalkeeper places.
“As I say, to pick a number one from there will be a nice headache for Parreira,” he adds.
