Former President of the National House of Chiefs Odeneho Gyapong Ababio has expressed scepticism about efforts to end the many chieftaincy disputes plaguing the country.
He says it is impossible to expect a thriving chieftaincy institution without litigation.
Odeneho Ababio was contributing to the debate over the state’s decision not to recognize the Ga Mantse Nii Tackie Tawiah.
Government has explained he would first have to rid himself of the several legal suits challenging his reign and get his name gazzetted in the register of chiefs.
Odeneho Ababio said government should focus on minimising the conflicts rather than expending resources on eliminating chieftaincy conflicts.
“Every effort should be made by all who are concerned to curb the litigation,” he said.
Odeneho Ababio led the National House of Chiefs during his tenure to begin a project to document clear succession lines to prevent chieftaincy conflicts.
The project was stalled due to lack of funds, he said.
