A group of Bafana Bafana players left the country today for Brazil in high spirit ahead of their one-month camp that starts this week.
Bafana coach Carlos Alberto Parreira has picked 29 mostly local-based players from where he hopes to choose some for his final World Cup squad.
Speaking to Kickoff.com at OR Tambo airport before their departure, both Bloemfontein Celtic midfielder Tlou Segolela and Golden Arrows midfielder Thanduyise Khuboni said they will not use the trip overseas to sight see but to become better players.
Segolela believes that the Bafana camp will open more opportunities for him to make it into the final squad for the World Cup.
"It is every player’s dream to play in the World Cup but for me this trip to Brazil is already an achievement itself. There are spaces in final team for the World Cup still open and one can use this opportunity to sneak through into the final team line-up."
Khuboni added that he was also encouraged by the support and well wishes received at home before their departure to Brazil.
"My mother cried when I left yesterday. It is just sad that my father is no longer around; he would also have been very excited to see me playing in Bafana. He was big soccer fan and supported both Sundowns and Amazulu.
"We always enjoyed watching soccer together on TV but he unfortunately passed away last year after being shot by thugs while on his way to home in Durban after work.
"I am ready to grab this opportunity and make him very happy wherever he is."
Head coach Carlos Alberto Parreira, his assistants Pitso Mosimane and Jairo Leal, along with goalkeeper coach Alex Revoredo and physical trainer Francisco Gonzales jetted out of the country for Brazil last night.
