The controversy surrounding the recognition of the Ga Mantse by the state has taken a different twist with the king makers of the Ga Traditional Council disowning the Ga Mantse.
Nii Tackie Tawiah III had accused government of sidelining him and disrespecting the tradition of the Ga people.
He also questioned the quality of advisers to President John Mills concerning the Ga tradition, stating the Ga people are no fools to be treated with contempt.
Government spokespersons in reaction challenged the Ga Mantse to resolve all litigations challenging his authority and get himself gazetted in order to be recognized by the state.
Only when the dust of controversy between the government and the office of the Ga chief appear to be settling, the King makers have waded into the saga, challenging the legitimacy of the Ga mantse and dissociating the Ga state from the comments made by Nii Tackie Tawiah III.
At a press conference organised by the Jaasetse for the Ga stool on Thursday, Nii Yartey Otogah said the effusions of the Ga mantse against the president was to say the least, embarrassing.
“He is so persuaded by his inordinate and vain ambitions that he is totally unaware that he is betraying his utter frustration and fatal desperation.
The Jaasetse announced in Ga; “…woleee heko ei, noni eya fee lε, lε dientsε ejatsu atele lε,” which literally means "we have no hand in what he has done, let him bear his cross alone."
“The Ga paramount stool jaase sincerely apologises on behalf of all Ga people, to the whole nation and in particular to his Excellency the president for the unwarranted effusions against the highest office of the country,” he added.
He said the behavior of the Ga mantse only typifies his lack of knowledge of the traditions of the Ga people.
“We state on authority that any purported installation of a Ga mantse without the Jaase’s initiation, direction, participation and approval is null and void,” he stated.
But Nii Boye Abbey, spokesperson for the Ga mantse in an interview with Joy News’ Cyrus DeGraft Johnson described the entire press conference as a sham.
He described Nii Yartey Otogah as “an imposter”, adding the comments made must be disregarded.
They have no right to apologise on behalf of the Ga people, he stated.
He accused a brother of the Odododiodio MP, Nii Tackie Commey for fomenting trouble in the GA state.
He stated emphatically that Nii Tackie Tawiah III is indeed the recognised chief of the Ga state.
