The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) is arresting violators of its bye laws on noise making in the metropolis. A special task force of the AMA is confiscating musical instruments of churches, drinking bars and DVD/VCD vendors whose activities they say create noise above the permissible limits of noise in the metropolis.
This action by the AMA follows persistent public outcry on the alarming rate of noise making within the metropolis. The AMA task force will ensure that operators of such facilities comply with AMA directives to halt the nuisance in Accra
James Dorgbetor, Public Relations Officer of the AMA told Citi News the exercise will ensure sanity and the reduction of noise levels in the metropolis.
“lately we have had several complaints from residents within the metropolis of unacceptable level of noise making within the metropolis. The close of last year, we had over 100 complaints from residents mostly activities of churches, people selling cassettes, night clubs etc,” he noted
He said to avert the persistent noise making, they have put in place a task force who have started arresting violators of the bye laws.
“We have formed a task force arresting people who are violating our bye laws.
"...this started sometime ending of February and at the moment we have seized some equipment, mobile vans and we have even closed down some churches,” he added
