The Director-General of GBC, William Ampem-Darko, says management is determined to make the one GBC News project succeed.
He explained that the decision to merge the Radio and Television Newsrooms is not meant to satisfy the parochial interests of any person or group.
The project which has since taken off will be fully operational with a 24-hour service by July this year with staff of Radio and Television News working together as one division.
At a meeting with staff of the Radio Newsroom, Mr. Ampem Darko said the one GBC will also feature news readers of both Radio and Television news.
He said any member of staff who is not prepared to abide by the new arrangement can choose to fall out.
Mr. Ampem Darko said when the project becomes fully operational, there will be a News and Current Affairs Division with a divisional head.
The News and Current Affairs division will produce and broadcast News and Current Affairs concurrently on seven channels.
As parts of moves to ensure an effective and efficient merger, two representatives from both newsrooms have been unanimously selected to co-ordinate operations of the one GBC News. They will among other things, come out with a new roster of news readers on both Television and Radio.
Meanwhile, The Radio News Staff dispelled the notion that the Deputy Director-General, Mr. Sarpong Anane, just took a Radio Newscaster to TV News to read the news.
They pointed out that the issue was discussed at a meeting in the Boardroom with the two Assistant Directors of both Radio and TV present and it was decided that the Radio News reader should read the TV News at 12 noon on Sunday. This was duly communicated to both newsrooms.
