Parliament is considering hauling former GIMPA rector Professor Stephen Adei to substantiate his allegation of corruption against MPS.

He alleged that some members of parliament took bribes and in some instances for their girlfriends before approving projects and policies. He made the allegation earlier this month when he Addressd the 40th anniversary of the SAPS school in Accra.

“We won’t have politicians [collect bribes] who have been privileged to have every need of theirs met but at least eight in ten politicians are glorified thieves,” he added.

But now the former GIMPA rector will have to substantiate the allegation before parliament.

Describing the statement as unfortunate, Majority Chief Whip, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak tells Joy News’ parliamentary correspondent, Elton Brobbey the leadership is working towards getting Prof. Adei to substantiate the allegation.

“Yesterday I heard my colleague, the Deputy Minority Leader making some assurances that they will definitely [invite him],” he said.

As an elderly statement, Alhaji Muntaka said, Prof. Adei could have even be granted audience by the leadership of the House without appointment if he had some genuine concerns.

“I thought in nation building it is not about chastising, it is about trying to get a system run the way we should all expect. I would have expected Prof. Adei to walk in here and come and lodge a complaint…and I want to believe the Speaker or leaders would have taken it up very, very seriously.”

Meanwhile, Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide, Kweku Baako Jnr. who has described the Professor’s comments as explosive wants Parliament to summon the former Rector.

“It’s going to be very difficult to defend such a thing…” Mr. Baako said on Joy FM’s Newsfile, “I think that with the standing, ok, that the professor has, he must be able to give us something of evidential value to support what he has said, otherwise then it is free for all. Floodgates must be opened for everybody, media or otherwise, to say anything anytime, anywhere and get away,”

When invited, Prof. Adei would be expected to provide specific names of MPs who took bribes before considering a policy or a bill.
