One of the four male pupils of Hecta International School at Akyem-Oda who allegedly gang-raped a 14-year-old female pupil of the school has been remanded in prison custody by the Akyem Swedru Circuit Court.
He will reappear before the court presided over by Mr Kofi Akrowiah tomorrow March 26, this year.
The court also issued a warrant for the arrest and prosecution of the three suspects, who are on the run.
Prosecuting, Detective inspector K. Kwaku Antwi of the Oda Police said, the accused, the three suspects at large, all aged between 16 and 17
years, and the victim were all second year junior high school (JHS) boarding students of the institution.
He said on February 19, this year, the four male students lured the victim from her hostel to the first accused person's residence at Oda, where they gave her alcoholic beverage to drink.
Detective Inspector Antwi said after taking the drink, the girl became intoxicated and the four male students took advantage of her weakness to have sexual intercourse with her one after the other.
He said the girl later went home to report her ordeal to her parents, who lodged a complaint with the police.
According to the prosecutor, the police managed to arrest the first accused, but when the three other suspects heard that they were being sought for by the police, they fled to seek refuge elsewhere.
He said, in his caution statement to the police, the first accused person admitted the offence and was put before the court, which remanded him in police custody until March 18, this year.
Detective Inspector Antwi stated that when he appeared before the court again on March 18, the presiding judge remanded him in prison custody until March 26, hoping that by that time the three accomplices on the run might have been arrested by the police.
