An Accra High Court has acquitted and discharged the head pastor of the International God’s Way Ministries, Bishop Daniel Obinim accused of assaulting a programme host at Hot FM.
The Bishop was alleged to have attacked the Accra-based radio station August 8, 2011 destroying property during a live discussion that centred on him.
He was reported to have caused harm to one Kwame Ntim Okatakyie, the host of the programme, Hya Asem Hwe, who alleged that he (Obinim) had harmed him.
The bishop denied the allegations in his evidence in chief. He stated that he went to the station to clarify issues on the allegations of marital infidelity which was being discussed there, but was rather pushed through the class doors of Hot FM.
After listening to all arguments, the presiding judge Justice Abdulai Iddrisu freed Obinim, explaining that the prosecution failed to provide credible evidence against him.
Two associate pastors of Obinim - Kingsley Baah and Kofi Akwetey – were also freed on charges of conspiracy to assault, unlawful entry and assault.
The judge said the evidence before him does not prove that the suspects unlawfully entered the studio premises.
Also, Justice Iddrisu said the state did not lead evidence to show that the suspects were the ones who caused unlawful damage to the property of the station.
