At least five trucks loaded with palm oil have pulled up at the Food and Drugs Authority for testing following public alert that significant quantities of the edible food contains cancerous Sudan IV.
The drivers told Adom News' Maame Esi, they took a cue from FDA efforts to check the edibility of palm oil and decided to volunteer their palm oil barrels for testing.

The FDA has, in the past weeks, been laying ambush to check trucks carrying palm oil from production sources to Accra.
Taking cue, the drivers want the palm oil tested because FDA swoops in markets have not been good for business. They want to avoid the embarrasement of having their products seized.

The drivers who were conveying their goods from Kade in the Eastern region to Accra say they arrived at the premises of the FDA Friday dawn at about 1am.
They waited for at least seven hours before the FDA office opened after 8am. Samples of the palm oil have since been taken. But the drivers are waiting for the results which the FDA has promised will be available before the day ends.

The palm oil business is in bad times after FDA drew public attention that palm oil containing Sudan IV is a likely cause of cancer. The Authority had asked suppliers to volunteer their products or risk being punished if test on seized products shows the oil is not edible.
The FDA had earlier revealed that 98% of earlier test it had done on impounded barrels of palm oil showed it contained Sudan IV.
