The President of Institute of Human Resources Management Practitioners, Mr. John Wilson has assured its members that they will continue to engage the Government of Ghana on the HR Bill through different fronts such as the Ministry of Education, National Accreditation Board and the Professional Bodies.
Mr. Wilson said this when he delivered his second report as the President of the Institute at the 2015 Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the Accra International Conference Centre, Accra on Friday, 6th November, 2015.
“A review bill has been resubmitted to the Ministry of Education to lead the process to get the review and grant the charter status to the Institute of Human Resources Management Practitioners”, Mr. Wilson stated
On the performance of the Institute of the year under review, the President said, “The Institute continued with the Growth Plan under 4 thematic areas dubbed 3+1. This guided all our activities during the period under review; and is defined under: Expansion, Visibility, Capability and Culture”.
Touching on Regional Expansion, the President reported that the setting up of a Tamale Chapter and also running the Professional Certification Programme in Tamale are both major targets in 2016.
Briefing members on the progress of their HR Complex, the President reported that “The Institute are in the process of obtaining building permit from LEKMA to kick start with preparations towards the commencement of the outer structure Project. The construction of a security post is completed but the walling of the land is in progress”.
On Expansion, Mr. Wilson said, “Membership drive resulted in an increase in both Associate and full membership by 23% and 22% respectively. This achievement was as a result of our continued engagement with the tertiary institutions like University of Ghana, University of Science & Technology, Kumasi, University of Cape Coast, Kings University College and others. He made a strong point that HR Managers should be strategically placed in our organizations to create value to achieve business results. We are working hard to make sure that the Institute of Human Resources Management Practitioners will become a Professional HR Body of Choice”.
In his welcome address, the Executive Director of the Institute, Mr. Ebenezer Agbettor reminder members of the 5 important purpose of the 2015 AGM which include taking inventory; to give another mandate to elected officers whose tenure has come to an end; to pass two resolutions of Code of Ethics and Policy on Sitting allowance; to listen to a seasoned banking personality sharing his thoughts on the chosen topic and to strengthen networking.
The Guest Speaker, Mr. Daniel Asiedu spoke on the topic “Empowering HR Practitioners in Delivering Business Results”, a nagging issue confronting both the private & public sectors.
