If you are a regular listener to the daily morning devotion on Joy FM, you must be familiar with the bold voice of Pastor Jonathan Otibu. The man who led devotion on the station is leaving the shores of Ghana for the United States. Last Wednesday marked the end of Pastor Jonathan’s service at Joy FM after serving with the station for nine years. In an interview on Joy FM's Super Morning Show last week, Pastor Joe said he would use his time in the US to advance his ministerial career and to touch more lives. He likens himself to the donkey Christ rode on to Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, some 2000 years ago. "As servant of God, you are like the donkey," he said. Palm Sunday is a Christian movable feast that always falls on the Sunday before Easter Sunday. The feast commemorates the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem in the days before his Passion. It is also called Passion Sunday or Palm Sunday of the Lord's Passion. Asked about his fondest memories of Joy FM, Pastor Jonathan said he loved working in an environment where results, and not efforts, were what measured performance. Spiritual movement Pastor Joe recounted how he always felt moved by “The Spirit” to touch the lives of his listeners. “Anytime I open my mouth to say something on the radio, it is profound. Even when I am tired; even when I don’t feel like doing it…something flows out of my heart,” he said. “People call me and say it’s so sweet, it’s so good, you encouraged me,” he said, stressing, that added to the satisfaction he got from the job. He attributes the positive reviews he has received on his programme to God’s constant support and encouragement. ‘Wednesday last lunch’ As a departure formality Pastor Jonathan on Wednesday dined with staff of Joy FM at the plush Joy Marketing Services auditorium. For staff of the station, it was time to celebrate the achievements of a great pastor who defied the odds to preach the gospel and assist people realize their strengths and potentials. Programmes Director of Joy FM, Albert Kofi Owusu, said Pastor Joe, over the years, constantly “proved to be a very conscientious worker. He was dedicated and had a strong passion for the job. He always wanted to be the best.” Mr Owusu said Pastor Joe is not completely lost to the station because there are arrangements to keep a slot for the man of God, plus the station has a “solid team” to hold the fort.
