The Madina District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr. David Eklu on Wednesday exposed garage owners at Ogbojo Light Industrial Area at Nsamanpom in the Greater Accra Region to crime alertness and prevention.
He said the sensitisation programme was in line with the efforts of the Ghana Police Service to court the co-operation of the public to combat crime and educate them about the modus operandi of criminals.
Mr. Eklu said five vehicles parked at residential areas and drinking spots in the district have been snatched by armed robbers, explaining that the criminals often prefer cars like Toyota Corolla, Toyota Rav 4 and KIA Pride.
He therefore called on the garage owners to be alert and report to the Police anytime the robbers sent such stolen vehicles to spray or change their number plates.
The Commander asked them not to yield to huge monetary enticement to co-operate with the criminals.
The Madina Station Officer, Chief Inspector Stephen Boadi asked the public not to lynch suspected criminals since it is against the law.
He said such suspects should rather be reported to the police.
During the interactive session some of the garage owners complained about police harassment when they are testing vehicles under repairs.
Mr. Eklu advised them to acquire driving licenses before they move such vehicles for testing, adding that vehicles under test should also carry the "on test" sign plate both at the back and front.
