THE Chief of Ada Foah, Nene Tawiah Narnor Kokotey Tettey-Ga 1V, has presented educational materials and food items to two institutions in the Dangme East District. The institutions, the Dangme East District Directorate of Education and the Dangme East District Hospital, received support worth 57 million. The items given to the Education Directorate were 10,000 exercise books, five boxes of chalk and assorted textbooks, while the donation to the hospital included food items such as bread, rice, sugar and pineapples. The books are to be distributed among the basic schools in the district. The chief also rewarded the Ada Foah Methodist School, Ada Foah Roman Catholic School and Azizanya D.A. Primary School for their effort in keeping the area clean through the collection of all plastic waste in the town and also donated exercise books and chalk to three private schools. Presenting the items, Nene Tawiah explained that the donation formed part of activities marking the 18th anniversary of his enstoolment as a chief. He said education was the key to harnessing the potential of the people and advised the children to take their education seriously. The chief expressed regret at the falling standards of education in the district and called on the district assembly, parents, benevolent organisations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to help the schools in the district to salvage the situation, saying that the government alone could not bear the cost of education. Receiving the items, the Assistant Director of Monitoring and Evaluation of the Dangme East District Directorate of Education, Mr. Dugbartey Namor, commended the chief for his kind gesture, saying the donation would go a long way to improve education in the district. He, however, revealed that inadequate staff and office accommodation was thwarting the efforts of the directorate to promote quality education. He explained that the office had only 32 staff members, instead of 62, saying that it was disturbing the continuous monitoring of teachers to enhance effective quality teaching and learning in the district.
