Nine suspects linked to the killing of the overlord of Dabgon, Ya Na Yakubu Andani, have been charged with murder and remanded in custody.Eight of the suspects, mainly from the Abudu Royal Family were charged with murder and conspiracy to kill the overlord.A ninth person has been charged with organizing military training. The nine were arrested together with 24 others over the weekend, deepening tensions in Yendi, Tamale. The Dagbon overlord was killed in 2002 after three days of a bloody confrontation between the Abudus and Andanis.Joy News reporter Sammy Darko reported from the court that the nine were remanded in police custody to reappear on the 5th of May, 2010.Lawyer for the accused and Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Atta Akyea, questioned the motive of the prosecution to have the suspects remanded. The court ruled in favour of the prosecution, but instructed that the best of medical care to be given to one of the suspects and caretaker of the Abudu gate, Alhaji Baba Iddris, who the defence said is not feeling very well.Atta Akyea told Sammy Darko after the hearing that the magistrate’s decision was regrettable.According to him the prosecution led by State Attorney Getrude Aikins had no “factual case” to present for the detention of the suspects, more so when they had pleaded with the court to remand them so the police could complete investigations. He said that amounts to justice set upside down.Source: Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
