A chieftaincy conflict is looming in Takoradi, the host city of Ghana’s oil find as the Asafohenefo of Takoradi is calling for the immediate destoolment of the sitting chief of Takoradi in the next three days. The Asafohenfo group are questioning the legitimacy of the chief of Takoradi, Osahene Busumakura III, accusing him of having bought the throne. They claimed that the chief is not from the royal Akona family. But in a sharp rebuttal the chief of Takoradi has described the so-called Asafohenefo as a bunch of rebellious people who want to disturb the peace of Takoradi. Royal Battle In an earlier press conference, Safohene Korampong of Whindo, a suburb of Takoradi, alleged that the chief of city, Osahene Katakyie Busumakura III, is not recognized by the members of the Akona royal family as the divisional chief of Takoradi in the Ahanta traditional area. The Safohene of Whindo is laying claim to all Takoradi stool lands and has asked the sitting chief to desist from parading himself as the chief of the oil city. But the chief of Takoradi, Osahene Katakyie Busumakura III, says he is a true son of the Akona Royal family. He says he is convinced that some cowards are using the institution of Asofohenefo, which has been dead since 1980, to foment trouble in Takoradi. According to him, he also asked the king of Ahanta, Otumfo Badu Bonsu, to disassociate himself from suspicion among some of his subjects that he is behind the Asofohenfo. He said the time has come for the Takoradi division of the kingdom to be raised to a paramount status. The chief warns that nothing will stand in the way of the divisional council in attaining that status. Story by Kwaku Owusu Preprah/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
