The Vice President John Mahama has proposed the setting up of a special account to cater for this year’s Hajj pilgrims who cannot afford a one-time payment.
This, he believes, will reduce pressure on the Hajj Committee and secure another successful Hajj this year.
Mr Mahama suggested this when last year’s Hajj Committee presented a report on the Hajj trip.
The report identified the need to maximize cost and suggested the airlifting of passengers from the three northern regions.
“I want the Hajj Committee to consider this year, giving prigrims the opportunity to pay in installments. Let’s not wait till the last minute for them to come out with all the money. You must create a special account for people who want to pay in installment,” he said.
Mr. Mahama announced a permanent National Hajj Privileges Committee to oversee all arrangements in relation to Hajj.
The Hajj Committee appealed to the vice president to provide the committee with a permanent office and a new hajj village since owners of the village have taken over their land.
