President Mills pulled off one of his surprise appearances at the headquarters of the country’s utility providers and Trades Union Congress Friday morning.
His first stop was the office of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the central business district and then headed to the Ghana Water Company (GWC).
The President also showed up unannounced at Headquarters of the Trade Union’s Congress (TUC) where he addressed unionist.
“This is a surprise visit but as far as I am concerned, it is not extra-ordinary. If I come to TUC headquarters, I’ve really come home,” he said amid loud applause by his audience.
“I don’t think that I should only meet you at the Independence Square on May Day. I think that governance is a continuing process and we are there to help all sectors of society. And I think it is important for me to interact with you regularly so that we can exchange views and ideas. When we get to know what your concerns are, our decisions will be better informed,” the President said.
Deputy TUC General Secretary Dr. Yaw Baah thanked the President for his visit and expressed the union’s gratitude for government’s commitment to implementing the new Single Spine Salary Structure.
This is the latest in a string of surprise visits by President Mills to state institutions to acquaint himself with their operations.
It comes after visits to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, the revenue collection agencies and the Tema Habour.
Director of Communications at the Presidency, Koku Anyidoho, told Joy News the visits are part of the President’s “Better Ghana Agenda.”
