Three hundred and thirty seven road accidents involving 502 vehicles were recorded between January and yesterday" on the 37 Military Hospital Airport stretch of road and on the Motorway.Fifteen lives were lost in the accidents says the Airport District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Anderson Fosu-Ackaah.Speaking to the Times yesterday, Mr Fosu-Ackaah was worried at the spate of road accidents on those roads saying that it was a real headache. He said fatal accidents used to be recorded around the Tetteh Quarshie interchange on the, Madina-37 stretch but since traffic lights were installed the trend has changed.That notwithstanding, he said, many accidents are sti11 being recorded and he urged road users, particularly drivers to be cautious.Giving the breakdown of accidents, Chief Superintendent Fosu-Ackaah stated that in January, four people died in 100 accidents involving l04 vehic1es.In February, 86 accidents involving 137 vehicles were recorded with four deaths.In March 69 accidents involving 132 vehicles were recorded with three deaths while in the month of April as of yesterday, a total of 82 accidents involving 129 vehicles with four deaths had been recorded.Chief Superintendent Fosu-Ackaah said his outfit was worried about the trend saying that though there was a slight reduction compared to January, it was still not the best.He identified over speeding, disregard for road signs and drivers inability to display reflective triangles when their vehicles break down as some of the major factors behind the accidents.He appealed to passengers to muster the courage to ask overspeeding drivers to slowdown.Source: The Ghanaian Times
