Ghanaian sensational traditional and contemporary music group, Hewale Sounds led by Dela Botri is set to release its second album, 'Amewuga' meaning 'Human beings are more worthy than money'. The group's first album, 'Trema' released in 2003 enjoyed a lot of patronage both locally and internationally and they hope the new album will attain greater heights than the first. Hewale Sounds, based at the International Centre for African Music and Dance, University of Ghana, Legon is a traditional African instrumental, vocal and drumming ensemble of 14 musicians and it was formally inaugurated at the Centre for National Culture, Accra on February 3, 1996. Since its inception, the group has enjoyed tremendous success performing all over Ghana, including performances for visiting heads of states. Speaking to Myjoyonline.com, Dela Botri, leader of the group described the 15-track album as the new face of the Hewale Sounds because, “the rhythms on the album are not only from Ghana but from the whole of Africa with our own arrangements and compositions”. Examples of the African rhythms fused into the album are Kyielume from Benin, Zamazimo from South Africa and the Why Why Go track on the album is a mixture of 'Bawa' rhythm from the Northern part of Ghana with the tune itself originating from Senegal. 'Amewuga' has songs like Tamale, Amewuga, Alafia, The Spirit of Africa, Why Why Go, Tayele and others. The album is an initiative of the Institute for Music and Development based in Ho in the Volta Region and it is supported by the Danish Embassy in Ghana. Dela said Ghanaians will see a “a new Salifu Kaita, Youssou Ndour and Africano in Ghana through this album because it is a collection of Salsa, Jazz, Traditional and other rhythms from Africa”.
