Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI was on Monday installed Osu Mantse (chief) in a tense atmosphere at the forecourt of the Nii Dowuona Royal House, (forecourt of the Kinkawe Dadebu-Naa). The ceremony, that lasted several hours, was graced by various chiefs and priests in the Greater Accra Region under the supervision of heavily armed police personnel. After some rituals had been performed to install Nii Dowuona VI, he declared the day as a sad one but happy moment in his life. In speeches prepared as part of the event brochure, he declared; “I am sad because Osu [has experienced] a turmoil of chieftaincy issues for the past 30 years minus development. In the same vein, I am happy because at long last, a programme of this nature is taking place today which marks the end of our chieftaincy issue and also marks the beginning of a new era.” He enumerated some development projects he intends to execute, including a community vocational & technical institute, a bank, a multi-purpose business centre, befitting palace for the Osu Mantse and an an educational fund. He called on all to rally behind him to ensure that the projects are successfully executed. The Osu Mankralo, Nii Ako Nortei IV, in a speech read on his behalf, expressed the hope that the new chief would work assiduously to reverse the current status quo in Osu where the youth are “wallowing in miserable unemployment, crime, teenage abortions and other forms of deviant anti-social behaviour”. He also called on the chieftaincy factions to unite and say 'never' to actions that could cause the area to “fall back into the bitterness, rancour and acrimony of those turbulent years” which has been the situation for the past two decades. He called on the youth to be patient, obedient and law-abiding, whilst parents were asked to take good care of their children.
