Interior Minister, Martin Amidu has assured the general public that security agents are on high alert to track down the five convicted armed robbers who are still at large, after escaping from the Sekondi Prisons.
According to him an independent government enquiry is to be conducted into how the ten convicted armed robbers escaped from the Sekondi prison over the weekend.
The prisoners in a Hollywood fashion broke jail with the assistance of a ‘visitor’ who was said to have provided food for the criminals and aided them in breaking jail.
Five of them have since been re-arrested and the remaining five, according to Mr Amidu will soon be arrested.
“Those who are at large are being monitored and we have the hope that the security agencies who have been working tirelessly all this while are capable of arresting them,” he said.
Meanwhile Western Regional Minister, Paul Evans Aidoo, who is also chairman of REGSEC tells Joy News security has been beefed up at the Sekondi Prisons to avoid a recurrence.
