Mr. Mahmood Khadid has been sacked as the Upper West Regional Minister.
A statement from the presidency, signed by Mr. J.K. Bebaako-Mensah, Secretary to President J.E.A. Mills, offered no reason except to say that Mr. Mahmood’s dismissal is with immediate effect.
The statement said Mr. Moses Mabenga, the Northern Regional Minister, is to oversee the administration of the Upper West Region until a substantive minister is appointed.
Only about a month ago, the regional executive of the National Democratic Congress petitioned President Mills at the Castle calling for the removal of the Regional Minister.
The situation compelled the President to call a meeting at the Castle between the executives and the minister in an attempt to resolve the impasse.
Mr. Mahmood has had a series of run-ins with the party's regional executives and party youths recently, with the latter group accusing him of sidelining them in the awards of contract in favour of cronies. He has denied the allegation.
On Tuesday, irate party youths besieged the Regional Coordinating Council office to disrupt a bidding process that was to see the award of contracts for the construction of school projects.
