Some Magistrates, State Attorneys and court officials in the Upper West Region capital, Wa, have threatened to suspend hearings at all courts from Wednesday following the reallocation of the District Court.
Officials say they turned up at the courtroom Tuesday only to find it locked due to ongoing renovation works.
An assistant State Attorney, Saeed Abdul Shakur, told Joy News the decision to lock up the place and reassign it to another government agency was not communicated to them and other court officials.
“We were just rudely told [Tuesday] afternoon – when the district court went to sit and work men were all over the place – when the Registrar came and informed us that they have information that the place has been reallocated to SADA [ Savanah Accelerated Development Authority] by the regional coordinating council” Mr. Shakur said.
He said court proceedings were held at the Magistrates Office because of the situation.
“There were so many people waiting outside of the Magistrate’s chambers waiting for their turn to also seek justice. It was such a sorry sight,” he adds.
Mr. Shakur warned that if the situation persists, it would be detrimental to justice delivery.
“There are so many cases that if the court were to shutdown, it would be serious,” he said.
