Commuters and motorists who rely on the Adomi Bridge as means of travelling from one side of the Volta river to the other can now be very happy as the bridge re-opens.
The re-opening of the famous bridge follows a special event Saturday by President John Mahama and Chiefs in the Atinpoku area.
The closure of the bridge last year became crucial after the it developed deep cracks about six years ago.
Government, as part of measures to prevent it from total collapse, secured funding from the Bank of Austria to commence rehabilitation works.
The bridge was closed on March 14, 2014, to vehicular traffic to allow major rehabilitation to take place.
Opening the €12.9 million rehabilitated bridge after the rehabilitation, President John Dramani Mahama assured commuters that the bridge is now “strong, it’s firm and it is will serve us for a very long time.”

He added that two ferries, at Senchi and Akrade which traversed the Volta lake during the closure of the Adomi bridge will now be moved to Yeji and Dambai to help in transporting goods and passengers in those areas.
Meanwhile, Traders in the area have predicted boom in business following opening of the Bridge as traffic will now flow.
