A cache of ammunition has been intercepted at the Kpoglo customs barrier in Aflao in the Volta Region.
The ammunitions, consisting of short gun cartridges were found in a compartment of a Nigeria registered truck coming from Togo to an unknown destination.

According to Joy News’ Volta Region Correspondent, Fred Kwame-Asare the cartridges were intercepted on Sunday afternoon.

He said the driver of the vehicle and his two accomplices who are suspected to be Nigerians have since fled.
Describing what led to the escape of the three, Kwame-Asare reported the customs officials as saying there were limited number of officers, to be precise only two officers on duty on Sunday afternoon.

“The officials suspected them after they discovered the false compartment on the floor of the cargo truck.”
“One officer rushed to town to call a welder to help in the break in and that was when the three suspects managed to escape,” he added.

The Aflao Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Service is still examining the items and is considering disposing off them after the examination.
There were parcels suspected to be India hemp and some cosmetics also in the cargo truck.
