Representatives of the Mamprusi faction in the Bawku Inter-Ethnic Peace Committee have returned to the negotiating table after they pulled out last year. The Mamprusis withdrew from the committee in September citing alleged military harassment of their kinsmen. They alleged the military in Bawku take advantage and manhandle Mamprusis without any provocation each time news of violence breaks out in the town. Alhaji Kobila who leads the Mamprusi team and also co-chairs the committee, tells Joy News they decided to return to the committee to fast track efforts of finding lasting peace following the appeals from both the public and government. He said the decision to return was taken after thorough consultations with the stakeholders. The Mamprusis and Kusasis have been involved in a protracted ethnic clashes which have claimed dozens of lives. Source: Joy News/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
