The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Tawiah III, has come under heavy criticism from the president of the National House of Chiefs, Prof. John S. Nabila, for his angry outbursts against the government. The Ga Mantse has accused the government of clandestinely orchestrating plots to overthrown him by some elements of the Ga State. King Tackie Tawiah, who has been vocal on government’s lukewarm attitude towards his kingship, capped his frustration with explosive remarks that sought to incite his subjects to rise up against so-called provocations by the Mills administration. However, the National House of Chiefs has denounced his pronouncements. Its president Prof. Nabila told Joy News Ga Mantse’s utterances are unfortunate and unbecoming of a king. He therefore counseled Nii Tackie Tawiah to rather concentrate on resolving the internal wrangling bedeviling his throne. “It is a case before a properly constituted Judicial Council, and therefore the President or the Vice-President, or anybody cannot just go and do away with the work and decide on what you want to do until they come to a conclusion.” He also debunked claims by the Ga Mantse that the failure of the House of Chiefs to deal promptly with what he referred to as government and political interference in chieftaincy issues portrays the body as a “debating club”. Prof. Nabila said the House of Chiefs has not been adamant as suggested by the king, noting that “we do act on certain issues, just that we have certain procedures that we have to follow and we have discussed it with him for all of us to put our heads together”. But the Ga Mantse has defended his comments. The Spokesperson for the Ga Mantse Nii Boye Abbey says the King’s patience is running thin because of the government's refusal to punish the criminals behind the audacious attack on his palace. He cited one Flt Lt. Tackie who is purported to be an operative of National Security, for holding meetings with one Ayittey Canada and other sub-chiefs several times at the Osu Castle and plotting the attack on the palace of the Ga Mantse. He therefore dared Flt Lt.
