President Mills has paid unannounced visits to two commercial centres in Accra.
He was accompanied by the city’s mayor as he interacted with traders at the Odawna and Abbossey Okai Markets.
At some points the president and his team walked through the rain to meet with some of the traders.
The spare parts dealers at Abossey Okai mentioned a number of concerns they wanted the president to address including the Public Procurement Act, which they said has cut out the informal sector, as well as bad roads in the area.
President Mills assured the spare parts dealers that government will take steps to address their concerns.
He noted that the law must serve the interest of the people and would therefore ensure that something is done about their plight.
“I think something has to be done about it [procurement law), and we will take the initiative. How can you say that Ghana is wealthy if Ghanaians are not wealthy? If the people are being cut out and the big players are the only one enjoying, let’s make possible for especially Ghanaians to benefit from this law.”
