There was drama in Parliament Tuesday for close to an hour when Members of Parliament (MPS)were presented with the list of lawmakers who will be assisting the Constitution Review Commission.
MPs from the different parties represented in the house criticized the list and the intense debate resulted in a decision to withdraw it.
The debate soon reached a crescendo when MP’s begun to raise concerns about gender, age and professional imbalance. Whilst others complained that 15 out of the 17 members are lawyers, describing it as an insult to the other professionals in the house, others argued that only two women were represented on it.
Surprised by the comments, Majority Leader, Cletus Avoka, asked the Speaker to give legal interpretation to the house's Standing Order that spells out the composition of a committee.
