Mr Fleance Danso, Asunafo South District Chief Executive, has stressed the need for the creation of additional electoral areas in the district to facilitate accelerated development.
He noted that the creation of such areas would also ensure that all communities in the district are duly represented in the assembly to identify and address the peculiar needs of the people.
Currently, there are 52 electoral areas and 120 polling stations in the district, with some of the communities being far apart, according to Mr Danso.
Addressing the first ordinary meeting of the second session of the assembly at Kukuom, Mr Danso noted that the long distance to some of the electoral areas had often led some eligible voters to stay away from both national and local elections.
"I have already submitted a proposal to the Electoral Commission for consideration," he said.
Mr Danso expressed appreciation to the Assembly Members for their support and cooperation, urging them to attend meetings regularly to assist in finding lasting solutions to problems that confronted their constituents.
