A 37-year-old man, who could not control his libido and unleashed it on a 10-year-old pupil of St. Emmanuel Preparatory School at Valco Flat, an Ashaiman suburb, is languishing in the cells of the Ashaiman Police Station facing charges of defilement.
The accused, Saviour Quarshie, a driver and a family friend of the complainant, pleaded not guilty to the charges when he was arraigned before the Ashaiman Circuit Court presided over by Judge Tsatsu Yao Azuma.
The accused person, according to prosecution, was said to have lubricated his sexual organ with a cream called ‘Joy’ ointment to ease penetration into the girl’s vagina.
The accused person, who was alleged to have committed similar offences which were pending before the Tema Circuit Court, was alleged to have gagged the minor to prevent her from screaming for help from tenants in the house where the incident occurred.
The prosecutor, Inspector Diana Sadame, told the court that the complainant is the grandmother of the victim and they both live in the same vicinity with the accused person who had been a family friend for some time now.
On May 17, 2010, the accused person, according to the prosecution, lured the victim into a kiosk, his abode, locked the door of the kiosk and covered the victim’s mouth with a rag.
He immediately removed the victim’s underwear, put her on a mat, after which he took the ‘Joy’ ointment and smeared it on his manhood and tried to perform the act.
The act was however unsuccessful as he could not penetrate the little girl. The accused forcibly opened the thighs of the victim, put his organ in between them and locked the thighs together as he bounced on the victim until he discharged onto her thighs and into her vagina.
The accused then warned the victim not to disclose the act to anybody since she would die if she did.
The complainant later detected that the victim could not walk properly and after a series of queries, she discovered what had happened to her granddaughter.
The case was immediately reported to the Ashaiman office of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) where a medical form was issued to her to go to the Tema General Hospital for examination and treatment.
Saviour was later arrested and he admitted to the offence in his caution statement to the police.
He was subsequently arraigned before the Ashaiman Circuit Court where he has been remanded to re-appear on a later date as further investigations into the case continue.
