The Brong Ahafo regional capital, Sunyani has recorded its first suspected case of bird flu.
According to Sunyani-based Sky FM’s correspondent, Kwabena Ampong, officials of the Agric and Health ministries who stormed the farm following the suspected deaths of a number of poultry, have already culled the stock and also destroyed other products such as eggs and feed.
The officials would however not say what number of poultry was destroyed, preferring to confirm their suspicions after laboratory tests.
The destruction, according to them, was a precautionary measure.
Ghana’s first case of the virus was recorded about three weeks ago on a farm in Tema, where a ban on the sale and movement of poultry and poultry products is presently in place.
