A policeman, who recruited three persons, managed to secure them police uniforms and three AK 47 assault rifles with 20 rounds of ammunition has been remanded by a Circuit Court in Accra where he is facing charges of conspiracy and stealing.
The plea of Bawah Abdul Jalil was not taken. His accomplice, A. Richard, K. Boateng and P.K. Godwin are at large.
He is to reappear on June 14.
When the case was called, Assistant Superintendent of Police A. Dery told the court that the Police was still conducting investigations into the matter and prayed the court to remand the accused person in custody.
The prosecutor told the court presided over Mr Justice Frank Manu that the accused person who was attached to Guard Duty Unit of the Police Headquarters had been interdicted.
The prosecution said on March 26 to April 5, this year, Jalil managed to acquire three sets of Police uniforms for Richard, Boateng, and Godwin.
Jalil and his accomplices went to the Panthers Unit Armoury at the Police Headquarters, provided fake service numbers and collected three AK 47 assault rifle and 20 rounds ammunitions and had their names booked in the station records on different occasions.
The prosecution said the officer in-charge of the armoury detected the anomaly and traced the names of the accused person and others in his records and reported the matter to his superiors.
The prosecution said the accused had not been able to assist the Police to trace his accomplices and retrieve the rifles.
