Two youth groups in Tamale nearly clashed over the appointment of Tanko Rashid as the Regional Director of Youth Employment Agency.
One group opposed to his appointment said Tanko already holds two positions - the Northern Regional Operations Director and also the Treasure of the NDC.
They moved to the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to petition the regional Minister, Alhaji Muniru Limuna over the appointment.
But supporters of the newly appointed Director were at the RCC to witness a handing over ceremony and the swearing in of Mr Tanko.
According to Joy News’ Martina Bugri, they were unhappy about the attempt to resist Tanko’s appointment and started raining insults on the opposing group.
The opposing group returned the verbal abuse of the other group. She reports that the timely intervention by the police at the RCC restored calm.
“The police fired warning shots to restore sanity as the two groups were pelting each other with stones,” Martina added.
The opposing group recommended that the Northern Regional Deputy Coordinator of the Youth Employment Agency, Abdul Mumin, deserved to head the Agency.
