The Akatsi South police have arrested one person for allegedly transporting a large quantity of dried cocoa beans suspected to be on its way to Togo.
The suspect, Kodzo Xenyo, 36 was arrested last Friday at the Hikpo barrier on the Accra-Aflao Road in the Volta Region.
The consignment, which was being transported in a Rhino Kia Truck with registration number ER2817-13 was travelling from Kade in the Eastern Region heading towards Togo.
Akatsi South Commander, Dennis Fiakpui, said police received a tip off about the contents of the vehicle and upon a search at the barrier, the items were discovered.
According to Chief Supt Fiakpui the driver could not provide a waybill covering the cocoa beans he was transporting, prompting the police to be more suspicious.
The driver was subsequently arrested and the truck impounded.
The dried cocoa beans were contained in about 30 drums.
The suspect is currently assisting the police with investigations.
