A Cape Coast Circuit court, on Monday, handed down an eight year jail sentence to Francis Teye, popularly called Ame Kwame, a 21-year-old farmer, for defiling a five-year old girl.
The convict, a resident of Nyamebekyere near Twifo Heman in the Central Region, pleaded guilty to defilement and was convicted on his own plea.
Inspector Daniel Agbezuhlor, prosecuting, told the court that the complainant, one Madam Aba Gyanwaa is a farmer and the grandmother of the victim.
He said on Tuesday, August 3 the complainant heard Teye calling the girl to check on his little son, who was asleep in his room and see whether he had woken up.
Inspector Agbezuhlor said immediately the innocent girl obliged and entered Teye’s room, he followed up, locked up the door, undressed her and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.
He said after the act, the victim, who was walking in pain, came out crying, and this aroused the suspicion of the complainant, who asked what was wrong with her.
He said she then narrated her ordeal in the hands of Teye.
Inspector Agbezuhlor said the complainant confronted the accused, who readily admitted the offence and promised to compensate them, but the complainant ignored him and reported the matter to the Twifo Heman Police.
He said Teye was arrested at Twifo Heman Baakodidi Junction, when he was about to board a vehicle to escape and he later admitted the offence, during investigation, and blamed the devil for the act and asked for forgiveness.
