The Council of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has elected Rev Emmanuel Martey as the new moderator of the church. Rev Martey was elected on Wednesday at the church’s national congress in Takoradi. He polled more than 70 percent of the total votes to beat his contenders. The 61-year-old professor had been accused by one of his challengers for being a wife-beater, callous and troublesome. He insisted that Rev Martey was therefore not fit for the high office of moderator. Both the church and the wife have denied the allegations. Rev Martey told Joy News his immediate priority is to further unite the church; and he prayed for forgiveness for his detractors. He admitted that news reports about his alleged adultery were “very, very troubling” but since he was aware of the source of the story, “I am not perturbed.” “I rather pray that he will be forgiven and then he will come to his senses and join hands with the people of God in order to fulfill the great commission.” But his accuser, C.K. Ansah said even though he is ready to face any sanction by the church, he stands by his allegation. Story by Myjoyonline.com/Joy News/Ghana
